| Summary of Tanaka & Komoto interview regarding XIV, some pretty interesting info.
Tanaka chimes in to express his preference for balanced parties, as opposed to everyone meleeing at once. When designing the party system, he made sure it would facilitate more strategic setups, where everyone can play their respective role.
This reminds me of one of the main reasons I loved FFXI so much. Eventually the game degraded into "burn parties", and I was never really able to follow along with that so well because I never played one of the "pure" classes that was preferred for burns. In the long run, versatility got the shaft because everything became about brute force and speed once the game was "broken". I imagine at least the first couple years should bring back some of that old spark ;o
And as Celeras pointed out, this really has been as much a LJ community revival as anything, hasn't it? Friends page has been as active as it has been in years ;p We should throw up a forum or something... Project Reunion ;3 | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| So I watched the Sony Conference live, and had a similar "typical gamer" reaction as many others did, WHAT, ohlol. But then I started getting a flood of old-timers talking to me about it, and it gradually has convinced me to at least give FFXIV a shot and feel some of the hype for it. I thought about my reasons for quitting FFXI in the first place, and how my situation in life is different (not necessarily better, but different) and how perhaps I can afford to look forward to something. That being said, I also saw a bunch of other perspectives and had some conversations regarding the sense that this game makes from a business standpoint, and ultimately it comes down to this. MMOs do not have to be WoW or replace WoW to be profitable. FFXI, for all its shortcomings, has obviously pleased SE financially enough for them to greenlight another project, and I feel that there are a good number of reasons why the sequel should be able to do significantly better than the original.
( Why FFXIV Should Do Significantly Better Than FFXI )
Maybe I'm burned out from recent endeavors or maybe I'm just tired because it's late, but my writing abilities have completely escaped me in this post. I can't be assed to stealth edit anymore, you get the point. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| Can anybody please tell me what language the following sentence is in?
This correspondent and objective materiality of both human subjects and worldly objects not only suggests some commensurability and possibilities of exchange between them, but also suggests that any phenomenological analysis of the existential relation between human subjects and technologies of representation must be semiological and historical even at the microperceptual level.
My rule of thumb is that if spell-check doesn't even have anything close in its bank, then YOU MADE THAT FUCKING WORD UP, ASSHOLE. Look, showing off your intelligence is one thing, but I do not want to look up four different words in the goddamn dictionary just to understand one of your fucking sentences. You may think that you are being smart, but this is just BAD WRITING. It is the same basic fundamental principle that you learn all the way back in grade school. WRITING THAT PEOPLE CAN UNDERSTAND = GOOD. WRITING WHERE PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND A WORD YOU ARE SAYING = BAD. F- | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

| Watched some live-stream footage, pretty happy with what I saw. Might still be up if the guy's planning on broadcasting his whole playthrough, http://ja.justin.tv/esegk. Japanvideogames pricing is all whack at the moment, gonna give it a few days to see if they fix that, otherwise I'll just pull the trigger at Turtle Express (Playasia).
Considering I paid full price for Eternal Sonata, it couldn't possibly be a worse purchase than that. The 20 minutes I watched already had more quality in it than the entire damn game of ES. And ES got 35/40............. Famitsu, you're dead to me. I have a feeling they graded the online portion in reference to Monster Hunter instead of the SP. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| | All I can say is, if you like both MMOs and Shooters, you must buy Resistance 2. Must. | comments: 9 comments or Leave a comment |
| So it looks like Infinite Undiscovery is not only mediocre like I predicted, but to top things off there's no JP audio track option which should be standard by this generation.
Oh well, considering my backlog, the logjam of games this Fall, and the other stuff I have to take care of, this isn't such bad news. Thank you for sucking, you save me time and money ;o | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |
| E3 is underway. Underwhelming press conferences aside, there was quite a lot of coverage on some awesome games at the actual convention. You just have to have a shitload of spare time to sit in front of a screen hitting F5 constantly. In the order I remember seeing them:
( Impressions )
My E4400 is the weak link on my system right now, apparently bottlenecking the 8800GT and 4 gigs of RAM. While playing Crysis, several freezes while physics and destruction were being calculated seemed to be evidence. Looking at an E8400 or something, any thoughts? Are prices due to drop anytime soon?
Also looking to get a new monitor, been using a 17" fullscreen Sony for awhile, which has had great quality. But fullscreen is sooooooo out. Looking at a 19" Samsung. I mean hey, what's the point of good graphics on PC if you're not gonna have a nice display to view it on, right?
Argh, the wallet. It bleeds. My pretty much guaranteed purchases for the rest of the year:
Gears 2 Resistance 2 Little Big Planet Fallout 3 IU SC4 FarCry 2 Crysis Warhead PoP
Several others pending reviews.
Holy fucking shit. Throw in the fact that DMC4, GTA4, and MGS4 (Oooh, all 4's) all already came out this year... And people were buzzing about 07's lineup? 08 is miles ahead with no competition. And 09 looks even more promising. The wallets am crying man tears ;' | comments: 18 comments or Leave a comment |

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK
Is all I can say. Seriously. Holy. Fucking. Shit.
94% metascore may be a great score. For MGS, it's a fucking travesty. I'll analyze the nuances (no spoilers) later, but all I can say for now is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccckkkk. Anyone who's played through the whole thing, beaten it, and seriously actually has the cahoneys to say that it did not at LEAST deliver as a AAA experience... needs his fucking head checked. Twice.
Go buy this game. Buy a PS3 for it if you don't have one. Sell your other consoles for the money FFS. Your future babies, all your additional pylons. Do it. It doesn't get any better than this. I don't think it ever will. Holy fucking shit. FUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKK | comments: 9 comments or Leave a comment |
| As opposed to actually working on my final papers ;' Shitloads of writing >.>
The 360 is now in a very uncomfortable mode where it's half-broken, broken enough that I can barely play it, not broken enough to consider it eligible for a free fix. Essentially every other boot-up has the busted up GFX display, and not a trace of RRoD ever since that first time, but the bottom line is that the thing barely works, and since I'm over a year in, it's RRoD or nothing for warranty >.>
3 days until the best game ever made, more until I get a chance to play it... Gotta clean up and move out in the subsequent days after it, then I gotta find a place to live for next year... ;'(
Less than a month until Taiwan, a month and a week until Japan (;DDD), a month and a half until Ranka Lee's debut (Sheryl Nome better be there 3;;) | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| Well kinda I guess. Last night I decided to charge my controllers (because 360's shitty controllers leak batteries even when you don't use them and both of them were completely empty) so I left one on to charge, and in the morning when I woke up I switched and turned on the system to start up charging the other. So I look at the dashboard and it's like, the fucked up display thing. "You are on the way to destruction! There is no chance to survive make your time!" Turn off, turn on. Boom. It's even more beautiful than in the pictures. The lights shine so bright. So I'm able to laugh at it because there's nothing that big until Gears in fall, so I go to get my camera to take pics, then I turn it on again and... it's not broken anymore >.> Stupid piece of shit won't even break right.
I even played like an couple hours of Gears and Halo 3 to try to kill it, still works just fine. Dammit. I need this thing to die so I can get it replaced BEFORE Gears 2, and I'd prefer to not have to resort to fraud 3;
A problem though, I have to move out of this apartment in less than two weeks, then I'll be in San Diego for less then two weeks, then it's my full Summer in Taiwan/Japan. Not gonna be much time to get this sent in and sent back until after I get back in say September, and by then the queue might be backed up. I really don't want to have to miss any Gears 2 time 3; WHAT TO DO OMG. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| Just installed this, there's this awesome add-on (RAMBack) that only works on version 3 that essentially solves the whole Firefox memory leak problem, it's so awesome. Every now and then still I get paranoid and pull up the task manager and it's like... WAT less than 100 megs D;/// A far cry from opening it up and seeing 1.6 gigs being shat all over.
Oh, the GUI is sexy too ;o | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
